Algebra 2 Tutoring
Algebra 2 is often where grades start to drop, because a whole year has gone by since Algebra 1. That dip is fixable.
I tutor Algebra 2 one-on-one over Zoom for students in Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, Sammamish, and across the Eastside.
How I Teach Algebra 2
This course is all about functions. Students learn to solve them, write their equations, graph them, and see how changes to an equation transform (move) the graph on the coordinate plane. Because Geometry sits between Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, I recommend that students going from Geometry to Algebra 2 use the summer to polish their basic algebra. The students who do tend to do much better in Algebra 2.
Who This Is For
Students who were fine in Algebra 1 and Geometry but are now questioning themselves in Algebra 2, plus honors-track students who want to stay ahead rather than catch up.
What a Session Looks Like
Every session starts with a quick check-in on what is confusing that week, then we work real problems together over Zoom. I send parents summary emails so you always know what we covered and what comes next.
What Algebra 2 Covers
Quadratic functions
Absolute value functions
Square root and cube root functions
Rational functions
Polynomial functions
Exponential functions
Logarithmic functions
For each type, we work on solving, writing the equation, graphing, and transforming the graph.
What Students and Parents Say
“When my 17 year old daughter’s self confidence and belief in herself was plummeting in algebra 2, Marga provided a safe place of encouragement. She was consistent and firm on practicing math and telling my daughter she was capable.”
— Anne M.
September: “Math is absolutely impossible for me.” October: “Ya know? I used to think math was impossible. Now I just think it’s hard.” January: “Sometimes I actually enjoy doing math.” March: (after an hour of tackling a quiz review packet on logarithms) “I AM THE LOGMASTER”
— Emily M, Sammamish, WA
Common Questions About Algebra 2 Tutoring
What does Algebra 2 cover?
1
This course is all about functions: quadratic, absolute value, square root and cube root, rational, polynomial, exponential, and logarithmic. Students learn to solve them, write their equations, graph them, and see how changes to an equation transform (move) the graph on the coordinate plane.
My student is taking Geometry and Algebra 2 in the same year. Can you help with both?
2
Yes. I have worked with students taking both in the same year, and sessions can cover material from both classes. See my Geometry tutoring page.
Should my student prepare over the summer if they are coming from Geometry?
3
Since Geometry sits between Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, I recommend that students going from Geometry to Algebra 2 use the summer to polish up their basic algebra concepts. Those who do tend to do much better in Algebra 2. Algebra 2 is often where grades start to drop, partly because a whole year has gone by since Algebra 1. A good first step is to have your student take the unit tests on Khan Academy over the summer. If they do not do well, that is a good time to bring in a tutor.
Do you tutor Algebra 2 online?
4
Yes. All sessions run over Zoom. Screen sharing and an iPad make it easy to work through problems together and write out steps the way a student would on paper.
